Summer Activities For Your Kids
Article contributed by Mae

Summer is fast approaching and this means that
we would need to be creative in keeping our kids
entertained. The minute our kids hear summer
they jump for joy while we get our thinking hats
on and plan their summer activities. Summer is
fun, relaxing, and this is also the time when
you will hear your child say …."I am bored".
Those are the words parents dread to hear.
For parents with young children this means no
school, and no preschool. Having a babysitter
throughout the summer is a little bit expensive
for some families. So what activities should
parents put them in this summer.
Summer is the perfect time to send your kids to
camps. During the summer, most communities or
even some non-profit organizations offer
different kinds of camps for all grade levels.
Some churches have their own kind of camps too.
Camps incorporate learning opportunities into
their schedule. There are a lot of different
kinds of camps. There are sports-oriented camps
and there are also camps geared towards arts.
You can also find camps focused on academic
activities. One thing you have to keep in mind
when you send your child to camp is that a camp
should not only be about fun but should also
weave learning in the activities.
Another thing you can have your children do for
the summer is have them join a book club at a
local library. Your local library may have kid
friendly reading programs planned for the
summer. Go have them visit the library at least
once a week during the summer. It is important
to have their imagination sharp and alive.

Summer is the perfect time to let your kids explore and be creative. |
During most of the summer, children can spend
many hours outdoors playing. I would encourage
children to spend time outdoors than indoors
with a video game in front of them. When
children are outside, whether actively playing
or not, the benefits are immeasurable. Outdoor
playing has lots of benefits such as
developmental and social skills.
Use nature as a tool for learning. Nature walks
will give your kids plenty of exercise and they
always find cool stuff around them. It is a good
time for them to explore nature and learn about
it. Museums and zoos offer great learning
opportunities and during the summer they may
even have "kids-free" programs.
If you do not want to spend much, there are a
lot of inexpensive activities you can do with
your kids. You just need to be creative. For
kids whose parents both work, you can have your
babysitter create an activity at home. Parents
can even pre-plan an activity so that you are in
control of the activity. All your babysitter
needs to do is just have fun with them.
Now, if you are a stay-at-home mom and you need
a couple of hours of break to do errands you can
always call your babysitter. I am pretty sure
your kids would love to have someone other than
you around them.
Summer is the perfect time to let your kids
explore and be creative. While they are young,
children need to experience fun and at the same
time develop self-confidence that they can
always make a difference. Remember the main
objective is to keep them busy and let them have
fun.
Kids' Day Out
Article contributed by Mae
Decker, 8 April 2012
There are a number of activities that parents can do with their kids. I think having a parent or both parents involved makes it more fun for everybody. During the school year we usually would enroll our kids in different fun activities like soccer or baseball league or in swimming lessons. We would even have them take up music lessons whether it is piano, guitar or even voice.
On a typical week, my kids would come from daycare and my babysitter would usually say that my kids had a very busy day. The babysitter would keep me informed of all the stuff they did or what they are learning for that week and come weekend we try to do something fun that they would be excited to tell a story at school.
So, what are some activities that we can do that don’t require a lot of money and time. I have three kids and it gets too expensive trying to entertain them. There are a number of places that you could take them that don’t require spending at all. You have to be creative and spontaneous when it comes to finding some activities that the whole family can enjoy.
One of my favorite places is the community playground. The playground is one place that my kids truly enjoy. You’ve got monkey bars, the swing, the slides, and some would even have sandboxes, really skies the limit for my kids.
I make it a special day whenever I would take them to the playground. I would usually bring snacks and make it into a picnic kind of a day.

But doing something with them and making it kind of special is something different for them. Who does not like going to a playground, getting dirty, and being able to run around and be wild?
My kids do. |
My community has a number of playgrounds within a walking distance and it varies from a small one to a big one. I would let them ride their bikes or we would just walk and it would all be fun. My kids are used to playing in their school playground and I know they enjoy it because their babysitter would tell me so. But doing something with them and making it kind of special is something different for them. Who does not like going to a playground, getting dirty, and being able to run

Having your kids play outside does not cost anything at all. It is free and you are spending quality time with them. Having them be active and not spend too much time in front of a computer or in front of a TV is what we want. We want our kids to enjoy nature and enjoy playing with friends and with each other. Having them outside encourages them to also be creative and be independent.
You have to think of a number of ways to stay active and it is not just for your kids but also for the parents. You will be surprised how special they would feel when they go back to school and they have to tell their friends, their teachers and even their babysitter what kind of adventure they had.
